Kyrgyzstan approves establishment of Russian military base

The agreement on the establishment of a Russian military base on the territory of Kyrgyzstan reached between the two heads of state in September will be valid for 15 years, with a possible extension for another five years.

Kyrgyzstan currently hosts a Russian underwater weapons testing station at Karakol, a military communications center at Kara-Balta, a radio-seismic laboratory at Maily-Suu and a Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) air base at Kant.

Russia plans to link these facilities into one base under unified command./.
