Cassava leaves and pandan leaves exported to EU

(Baonghean) -Agricultural by-products that are considered to be discarded or of little value such as cassava leaves, pandan leaves, taro leaves, banana leaves... have been collected and processed by Tan Dong Company Limited (Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City). Few people think that such ordinary products will be packed in containers and shipped to Europe to consumers in England, Germany, France, the Netherlands... earning hundreds of thousands of USD each year.

Mr. Tran Thanh Phu, Director of Tan Dong Company, said that in 2009, by chance, a customer from Europe who was importing herbs, fruits and specialty cakes from Vietnam asked to buy cassava leaves. After learning more, he learned that cassava leaves are one of the favorite foods of African Europeans. They use these leaves to prepare dishes such as soup or add them to other dishes. Not only cassava leaves, many other leaves of low value in VietnamMaleSuch as pandan leaves, banana leaves, sweet potato leaves, dong leaves... are also processed by Tan Dong Company for export to Europe. In 2011, the export turnover of Tan Dong's leaves alone reached more than 150,000 USD.

Currently, Tan Dong Company has over 100 agricultural products and specialties of Vietnam exported to Europe every year, mainly frozen vegetables and fruits; pure Vietnamese cakes such as banh chung, banh tet, banh it,... and traditional leaves. Because there are still native plant varieties, combined with farming conditions, Vietnamese leaves, herbs, fruits...Malestill retains the natural flavors chosen by many Europeans.
