Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen (Phu Xuyen, Hanoi) wondered: I have fatty liver, someone told me that drinking lotus leaf decoction will cure the disease. I don't know if this is true?
According to traditional medicine, people with liver disease and high blood fat drink lotus leaf decoction very well. Lotus leaves that have good effects must be young lotus leaves (not too old, not too young) harvested early in the morning when there is still dew, must be dried in the shade when finished, and must be sliced by traditional manual method (boat grinding). If the lotus leaves are too young or too old, the active ingredients are very low, especially when dried in strong sunlight, the active ingredients are very low because they are almost decomposed. When grinding and crushing by machine, do not use too high a temperature to retain many active ingredients.
Some people also think that the effect of lowering blood fat (cholesterol and triglyceride) is very low. This is understandable, because the effect of lowering blood fat, losing weight... of lotus leaves depends entirely on the composition and quantity of active ingredients in lotus leaves when harvested and processed.
In particular, the heat-clearing effect of lotus leaves can easily cause people with cold constitutions to have diarrhea, low temperature, cold hands and feet, and urination... Therefore, if you are not sick, you should not use lotus leaves. When using for treatment, you should only use it for 15-20 days/course, rest for 10 days, then use it for 1-2 more courses, but no more than 3 courses/year.
In addition, it should be noted that lotus leaves contain alkaloids that have sedative and cardiovascular effects, so the prescribed dose must be used at 15-20g/adult per day and should not be used for too long. Overdose or abuse can cause poisoning.
