What to do when children have rhinitis?

October 21, 2013 16:42

My son is 4 months old, he sneezes a lot, has a stuffy nose, has difficulty breastfeeding, I took him to the doctor and he was diagnosed with rhinitis. After taking medicine, his stuffy nose is better, but there is still a lot of thick mucus, making it difficult to breathe and breastfeed. Please tell me, besides taking medicine, what should I do to cure my son's illness completely and not relapse?

Children are susceptible to upper respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, rhinitis) because the structure of the nasal tonsils (adenoids) is often large. When inflamed, they will swell and cause airway obstruction. Due to the poor ability of the nasal turbinates to expand or contract depending on the environmental temperature, the air temperature is not warmed up when entering the lungs, making children susceptible to respiratory tract infections.

When children have rhinitis, if you do not know how to clean their nose, it will be difficult for the medicine to penetrate, the treatment effect will be significantly reduced, and the disease will even recur, making it very difficult to treat. Cleaning the nose is to clean the entire nasal passage, not just using a cotton swab to remove the mucus on the outside. The best way to clean the nose is to wash the nose with 0.9% sodium chloride saline. The water temperature before pumping into the baby's nose must reach 34 - 37oC, then the adult, mother (father), quickly closes the baby's two nostrils and sucks hard, longer (if using a nasal aspirator, you must cover the other nostril). Then do the same on the other side. You must suck 7-10 times for the mucus in the back of the nose to come out. After washing the baby's nose, there must be no more sniffling to meet the requirements, if there is still sniffling, it is not right. For young children, you should wash their nose when the baby has a stuffy nose and before going to bed.
