Clarifying the deputy commune police officer who fired 4 shots while on duty
Dak Lak Provincial Police have not been able to confirm whether three young men were injured by a deputy commune police officer who opened fire while on duty.
On June 17, Mr. Truong Van Huyen, Chief of Ea Kao Commune Police, Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak) said that there was a report that two police officers, while on patrol, opened fire on a group of young men not wearing helmets.
According to Mr. Huyen, the Buon Ma Thuot City police will clarify whether the two police officers were wrong in firing their guns. “However, I affirm that the shooting that injured three young men was wrong and will certainly be severely punished,” Mr. Huyen said.
Speaking to reporters, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Trong Tuan, Chief of Staff (Dak Lak Provincial Police) said that the Provincial Police Director has directed units to clarify the incident of a police officer firing a gun while on patrol.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tuan, implementing the plan of Buon Ma Thuot City Police to suppress crime in the area. On the evening of June 16, Ea Kao Commune Police organized patrol forces on the roads.

At 9:00 p.m. the same day, the patrol team led by Mr. Y Quy K'rong (Deputy Commune Police) and Nguyen Van Dan (Police Officer) discovered about 10 young men on 6-7 motorbikes speeding and revving their engines.
“When the working group asked the group to stop the vehicle for inspection, the young men did not comply and instead challenged and hit two police officers. At this time, Mr. Y Quy K'rong used a rubber bullet gun to shoot into the air. However, the group of young men continued to drive the vehicle and challenge the two commune police officers, so Y Quy K'rong continued to fire four more shots at the group of young men,” said Lieutenant Colonel Tuan.
The department head added that after the shooting, the group of young men continued to run away, so the two officers returned to headquarters to call the force to continue the chase.
About 15 minutes later, people reported that three young men, Nguyen Viet Thuan, Bui Van Truong, and Bui Minh Tuan (all 22 years old, living in Cao Thang village, Ea Kao commune) were injured.
“Authorities arrived at the scene and took the three young men to the emergency room. It is not yet possible to confirm whether the three injured young men were shot by the police or not. The provincial police are directing departments to clarify the incident,” said Lieutenant Colonel Tuan.
Regarding the deputy commune police officer who fired a gun while on duty, Lieutenant Colonel Tuan said he could not say whether it was right or wrong. “To confirm which side was at fault, we must investigate and determine whether such shooting was necessary,” the department head added.
Previously, at around 9:00 p.m. on June 16, Bui Van Luong, Bui Minh Tuan, and Bui Nhat Truong, all residing in Cao Thang village, rode two motorbikes from Ea Kao Lake back home.
When the group reached the slope of Bong village, they encountered a motorbike going in the opposite direction, then turned around and chased after it. After running about 200 meters, the group heard gunshots. The incident left all three injured and they were taken to the emergency room by local people.
The group of young men added that before shooting, the police did not signal the car to stop.
According to Dak Lak General Hospital, the three patients Tuan, Luong and Truong were admitted at 11:24 p.m. on June 16 with multiple injuries on their bodies. Tuan was injured on the temple; Luong was injured on the back and a wound on the left shoulder; Truong was injured on the thigh.
