Previously, at around 11:30 a.m. on March 8, Ms. Vo Thi Van (born in 1985, residing in Hamlet 4, Dien Xuan, Dien Chau) was taken by her family to Dien Chau District General Hospital to give birth.

At 8:40 p.m. the same day, the woman had pain and felt tired. Doctors examined her and found no uterine contractions, then discovered that her uterus had ruptured.

Immediately afterwards, the mother was taken to the operating table to remove the fetus. By 9:47 p.m. the same day, the mother had died, and the fetus (a baby girl) had also died before that.

After the incident, some relatives of the pregnant woman gathered at the hospital in anger, demanding clarification of the cause. On the morning of March 9, Dien Chau District Police were also present at the hospital to investigate.

Speaking to reporters at the hospital, Dr. Tran Khac Tien, Director of Dien Chau General Hospital, said that on the morning of March 9, the hospital worked with representatives of the family, with the presence of Dien Chau District Police.

At the meeting, the family did not request an autopsy but requested clarification of the cause of death and determination of the responsibility of the medical team for the incident.

“The family representative has agreed to bring the mother and child’s bodies home for burial. The hospital will initially cover funeral expenses; we will also hold a meeting to clarify the matter. If the doctor or midwife makes any mistakes, we will strictly discipline them,” said Dr. Tien.
