Uric acid - The culprit of gout

Most of theuric acidis filtered out by the kidneys and passes out of the body in urine. A small portion also passes out of the body in the stool. But if too much uric acid is produced, and the kidneys cannot remove it from the blood naturally, the level of uric acid in the blood will increase.

How to control and lower uric acid levels.

Gout is often called the "rich man's disease." Uric acid crystals are deposited not only in the joints, but also in the tendons, kidneys, and other tissues. These crystals can also form stones in the kidneys, passing through the urine.

The foods you eat are highly responsible for the increase in uric acid levels. Uric acid increases due to a diet rich in protein including meat and alcohol.

If you have gout, you should pay attention to the following nutritional guidelines:

Avoid drinking alcohol.

Avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate).

Avoid eating animal organs, meat, fish, shellfish and poultry.

Reduce consumption of vegetable proteins.

Drink plenty of water, which will promote the excretion of uric acid.

Avoid all foods that grow quickly such as: bamboo shoots, asparagus, mushrooms, bean sprouts, mint (elephant ear) because they will increase the rate of uric acid synthesis in the body.

Eat more fruits and vegetables (except those listed above).

For obese or overweight people with gout, they should have a plan to lose weight slowly. If they lose weight too quickly or fast, uric acid levels can increase due to the differentiation of the body's own cells, leading to gout pain.

Some things to note:

High uric acid levels can trigger gout attacks. However, not everyone with high uric acid has gout, and not everyone with gout has high uric acid.
