For the first time there are regulations on desks and chairs for students.
For the first time, desks and chairs for primary, middle and high school students are regulated in terms of size, material, structure, style, color and arrangement methods in classrooms.
That is the content of the Circular issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Health and applied to general education institutions, relevant agencies, organizations and individuals, and students with normal anthropometric indicators.

According to regulations, desks and chairs must be arranged to fit the majority of students, and can be arranged in many sizes in a classroom. The distance from the back edge of the first row of desks to the board must ensure that students sitting in the innermost and outermost positions of the first row of desks have a viewing angle to the center of the board of not less than 30 degrees and a maximum head rotation angle of not more than 60 degrees.
In the classroom, tables and chairs are designed to have no more than two seats, tables and chairs are separate and independent, tables must have a place to store learning materials suitable for the design structure. Depending on the age of the students, chairs can be designed with or without backrests. The color of tables and chairs must ensure aesthetics and must be suitable for the learning environment of the students' age.
In particular, to ensure the safety of students, the corners and edges of tables and chairs must be smooth; the table top, chair top and table legs and chair legs must be made of hard, water-resistant, non-warping, non-toxic materials. Tables and chairs must be solidly constructed and able to withstand frequent movement. The joints must be firmly connected, smooth, and beautiful, ensuring safety for users.
Many specific parameters are also regulated according to standards suitable for students' height index such as regulations on basic dimensions of desks and chairs, arrangement of desks and chairs in a normal classroom. Accordingly, there are 6 basic height groups of students: from 100-109 cm; from 110-119 cm; from 120-129 cm; from 130-144 cm; from 145-159 cm and from 160-175 cm.
Corresponding to these height groups are regulations on standard sizes of desks and chairs to ensure the health of students such as: students with height from 1m to 1m09 will have a chair height of 26cm and a table height of 45cm; students with height from 1m60 to 1m75 will have a suitable chair height of about 41cm and a table height of 69cm...
Primary schools, secondary schools and high schools that are using old desks and chairs must have plans to replace, repair and rearrange them to meet the prescribed standards. This Circular will take effect from August 1.
