With the theme “Don ca tai tu - Love for the land and people of the South,” the program will gather Don ca tai tu clubs, artists, artisans, composers, Don ca tai tu researchers... from 21 provinces and cities across the country.
The highlight of this festival is the organization of the Southern amateur music space, the grand music festival "Colors of Southern Melodies" and the scientific workshop "Preserving and promoting the intangible cultural heritage of Southern amateur music"...
Within the framework of the festival, the ceremony to receive the UNESCO certificate recognizing the art of Southern amateur music as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity will also be held.
Previously, at 12:47 local time (ie 15:47 Vietnam time), the 2003 Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO meeting in Baku city (Republic of Azerbaijan) unanimously approved the art of Southern Vietnamese folk music as a representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity with 100% of the votes.
Southern amateur music is a Vietnamese folk music genre that was formed and developed in the late 19th century, originating from ritual music, Hue royal court music and folk literature. This type of music is not only performed at festivals but also after the harvest.
This is a typical folk art form of the Southern region. Don ca tai tu is the art of instruments and songs, sung by ordinary people, young men and women in the Southern countryside after working hours.
The first National Don Ca Tai Tu Festival was hosted by Bac Lieu province.
The representative of the organizing committee said that this is also an opportunity to promote the image of the South, attract tourists to this land rich in cultural identity, contributing to the socio-economic development of the South in general and Bac Lieu in particular./.
