The Red Journey lasted from July 7-28, 2013, passing through 35 provinces/cities across the country.

On the morning of July 3, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion held a press conference for the first Red Journey across Vietnam to mobilize humanitarian blood donations. This is a practical activity in response to the "Summer Blood Drops" Campaign launched by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, aiming to overcome the blood shortage that may occur nationwide during the summer.

The focus of the Red Journey is to promote and mobilize the masses to donate blood. About 30 days of blood donation festivals will be held in the provinces/cities along the journey, with an expected collection of 12,000 units of blood.

In addition, the journey focuses on communication to raise public awareness of thalassemia (congenital hemolytic anemia) - a group of diseases in which patients always need blood transfusions for treatment, and at the same time calls on the community to care for and support thalassemia patients in difficult circumstances by texting TMBS to the hotline 1403.
