8th inspection of Long Thanh airport, Prime Minister requests basic completion by December 19
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested relevant units to focus fully to ensure that by December 19, Long Thanh airport is basically completed and meets the conditions for inauguration according to regulations.
On the afternoon of August 2, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh personally inspected the progress of a number of key infrastructure projects in Dong Nai, including Long Thanh International Airport.
Accompanying the Prime Minister were leaders of central and local ministries, branches and relevant units. This was the 8th time the head of the Government directly visited an important project of the country.

At the construction site, the Prime Minister personally inspected the progress and visited and encouraged the engineers and workers who are working day and night on the project. The Head of Government also presented gifts to encourage the working spirit and emphasized the role and significance of each item in the project.
According to the report, the Ministry of Construction has completed the selection of investors for four aircraft maintenance areas, submitted for approval of project adjustments; coordinated with the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to develop a plan to shorten the progress, with the goal of completing the project by December and organizing a technical flight.

According to ACV, all bid packages are being deployed simultaneously. At the construction site, there are about 13,000 engineers, workers and nearly 3,000 construction equipment being mobilized in hundreds of construction areas to speed up progress.
In particular, the terminal project is considered the “heart” of Long Thanh airport with more than 4,700 employees and about 1,000 construction equipment. The steel roof structure has been completed 99% of the volume, and the entire central roof is expected to be completed before August 15.
Regarding the runway category, the first runway has been basically completed. The second runway was started on May 30, under the form of selecting a special contractor. Currently, the contractor consortium has mobilized more than 280 engineers, workers and 127 pieces of equipment for construction.

After listening to the report, evaluating the progress and opinions of relevant parties at the inspection, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh commended the Ministry of Construction, ACV and other units for having made many positive changes over the past 3 months.
However, according to the Prime Minister, the remaining workload is still very large, requiring synchronous and smooth coordination between ministries, branches, localities, investors, and contractors to ensure the progress and quality of the entire project.
The head of the Government requested relevant units to rebuild the progress critical path, taking December 19 as the final milestone to basically complete and inaugurate according to regulations.
In addition, the Prime Minister requested to strengthen inspection and supervision with the motto "only discuss work, no retreat", "overcome the sun, overcome the rain, not lose to the storm", "work day, work night, work overtime on holidays", organize construction "3 shifts, 4 shifts, through holidays, through Tet, through weekends".
All must aim to synchronously complete the four component projects of the airport, ensuring technical infrastructure connections such as electricity, water, telecommunications, and smooth traffic connections.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also specifically noted that construction must go hand in hand with ensuring quality, technique, aesthetics, labor safety, and environmental sanitation, focusing on planting many trees and building green, clean, and beautiful landscapes.
Along with that, the Prime Minister requested to soon deploy projects to exploit airport services, build free trade zones, e-commerce systems, etc.
The head of the Government also assigned the Ministry of Construction to coordinate with relevant units to study the construction of a railway connecting to Long Thanh airport, and at the same time calculate the early start of construction of the third runway, with the spirit of "speed, even faster".

According to the Prime Minister, the early completion of the project will be of great significance, not only affirming the capacity of the investor, project management board, contractor and relevant agencies, but also demonstrating the stature, position and capacity of inter-sectoral coordination and international cooperation.
