Glorious past

On December 16, 2014, the news that the President signed the decision to award the title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces flooded all the streets in Hung Dung Ward. Just a few days later, at Dinh Trung - a national historical revolutionary relic, many veteran cadres, people and ward leaders held a ceremony to announce the good news to their ancestors. And I, had the opportunity to hear about the heroic history of Hung Dung Red Village.

Veteran cadres of Hung Dung ward said that from 1926 to 1929, Yen Dung Thuong was the birthplace of the patriotic and revolutionary movement. Therefore, only 2 months after the Communist Party of Vietnam was founded, on April 3, 1930, the Yen Dung Thuong Commune Party Cell was born. Under the direct leadership of the Party Cell, mass organizations such as the Red Peasant Association, the Youth Union, the Women's Union, and the Red Guards were also established to lead the struggle movement of the people in the whole commune to develop strongly. The morning of May 1, 1930 was a memorable historical milestone. More than 1,200 farmers of Yen Dung Thuong Commune united with groups of farmers from communes in the lower Nghi Loc region to take to the streets to protest, demanding higher wages for workers and lower taxes for farmers. The demonstration was brutally suppressed by French soldiers. In Yen Dung Thuong commune alone, comrades Nguyen Don Nhoan and Nguyen Duc Tieng were killed, many others were injured and captured by the enemy. However, the demonstration was affirmed to be the opening event of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement, the first time in the history of the revolution that workers, farmers and soldiers joined hands to fight together, and Yen Dung Thuong played the role of "standing up first".

Despite being brutally suppressed, under the direction of the Vinh Provincial Party Committee, the Yen Dung Thuong Party cell and the Red Peasant Association, together with other organizations, continued to command the masses to coordinate with workers of Vinh - Ben Thuy factories to organize demonstrations and launch movements to demand wage increases for workers and tax reductions for farmers. In August 1930, Yen Dung Thuong was chosen by the Central Region Party Committee as the location for the agency to direct revolutionary movements. In September 1930, a large demonstration with the participation of thousands of farmers and workers of the Match Factory took place at Dinh Trung to force the local authorities to return public land and thousands of quan of money to be distributed to the poor. After the struggle, the Yen Dung Thuong Party cell and the Red Peasant Association led the people to elect representatives to manage all work in the entire commune. The "Peasant Soviet" was established and the name "Red Village" was officially born.

Since early 1931, the French colonialists and their henchmen had reorganized their forces to suppress, and many brutal white terrors took place. In Yen Dung Thuong, the enemy sent soldiers to build forts in the commune and carried out brutal terror. 15 party members and key cadres were arrested, executed and imprisoned. However, the people of Yen Dung Thuong still kept their faith in the revolution, secretly sheltered, protected and hid many cadres and party members. The August Revolution in 1945 was successful and in the process of joining the whole country in the resistance war against the French colonialists, the cadres and people of Yen Dung Thuong, in addition to mobilizing hundreds of their children to join the army, actively worked in production, contributed money and food to feed the army; the Party cell here had up to hundreds of people (not counting the number of party members in the army and Party and State agencies).

During the resistance war against the US, Hung Dung commune was an area with many important military, political, economic and cultural bases of the province and the city, so it became a fierce target of US imperialism. In 8 years (1964 - 1973), the US attacked Hung Dung area in 592 battles with 5,674 bombs, 104 rockets, 350 artillery shells; B52 aircraft once carpet-bombed, causing all the houses of Tan Dinh hamlet to burn down. "Red Village" at that time became a land of fire. However, the revolutionary spirit of the 1930 - 1931 years of Hung Dung cadres and people remained intact. Veteran cadres proudly said, "An image that is still deeply imprinted in the minds of many cadres and soldiers until now is that the army and people of Hung Dung "the whole village surrounded the artillery plate", not afraid of danger, hardship and hardship". By the end of the war, Hung Dung militia and people had helped tens of thousands of army units and vehicles to temporarily stay and take shelter in people's houses to wait for a favorable time to cross Ben Thuy ferry; built over 30 anti-aircraft and missile combat positions and combat positions; dug over 3km of trenches connecting hamlets, 270 tunnels to hide vehicles, weapons and ammunition for the army. On September 1, 1967, Hung Dung militia on combat duty shot down the first American plane in the sky of the city...

Among the generations of people from Lang Do, Yen Dung Thuong, Hung Dung who participated in the Nghe Tinh Soviet Movement and the two resistance wars against the French and the Americans, nearly 270 people sacrificed their lives for the country; 5 mothers were awarded the title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother. With these contributions, in 1969, Hung Dung militia was honored as a Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces; Hung Dung ward was awarded the Military Exploit Medal, Military Exploit Medal and Certificates of Merit of various types by the President many times.

Future development

For the cadres and people of Lang Do - Hung Dung, the glorious past of their predecessors is a source of pride that is not easy to obtain; this is a priceless spiritual asset, a driving force for generations of cadres, party members and people to follow in the glorious footsteps under the Party's flag, determined to build a prosperous homeland. And in fact, since the end of the war, in harmony with the general development pace of the whole country, the province and the city, Lang Do - Hung Dung has transformed itself into an important part of a type I urban area with large, clean and beautiful roads such as Nguyen Phong Sac, Nguyen Duy Trinh, Ton That Tung, Nguyen Gia Thieu... associated with densely populated residential areas, close together with solid high-rise buildings with all kinds of business services. Currently, Hung Dung Ward is preparing for the Party Congress for the 2015 - 2020 term. Reviewing the implementation of the Resolution for the 2010 - 2015 term, with the motto "Economic development is the key task", the Party Committee and the government of Hung Dung Ward have focused their efforts on proposing many solutions to accelerate growth, and have achieved encouraging results. The results of the implementation by the end of the term were that the total production value reached 634 billion VND/613 billion VND of the target set by the Resolution; the average growth rate reached 8.8%; the average income per capita reached 21.7 million VND per year. The economic structure shifted in the right direction, it is estimated that in 2014, trade - services reached 67.2%, an increase of 11% compared to the beginning of the term; industry and construction 29.4%; agriculture only 3.34%. 100% of the blocks have built cultural houses with a scale of over 300m2, with full facilities, and an investment value of not less than 400 million VND; 100% of schools in the area have been built high-rise and have auxiliary works; 98% of internal traffic routes are concreted; 98% of households have access to tap water; 97% of households have access to the national grid; in 2014, the poverty rate was only 0.78%; rich and well-off households reached 72.2%. In the ward, many economic and public welfare works have been built with a total investment of nearly 84 billion VND, of which the people contributed about 7 billion VND, not including land value and working days. From the achieved results, at the Party Congress for the 2015 - 2020 term, cadres and party members in the entire Party will unite and responsibly select and elect the most outstanding children to shoulder the responsibility of building and developing the Heroic Red Village.
