Hundreds of textbooks wasted after stopping VNEN program

(Baonghean.vn) - Hung Dung Secondary School has just decided to stop teaching under the new school model (formerly known as the new VNEN school model). This is the result after a survey of teachers and parents with an agreement rate of over 90%.

This result has also received positive responses from students because for many years, the thing they worry about most when studying under the new school program is that the quality is not guaranteed.

Regarding Hung Dung Secondary School, after receiving the results of a survey to collect opinions from parents and students, the school directed professional groups to develop an educational plan to submit to the Vinh City Department of Education and Training for approval.

According to teacher Ninh Viet Tang - Principal of the school: Regardless of the program, the first task of the school is to ensure the implementation of the knowledge, skills and attitude standards of the promulgated General Education Program, ensuring the rights of students.

The current difficulty is that there is quite a difference between the content of current textbooks and the content of books according to the new school program. Specifically, with Chemistry, teacher Nguyen Ba Hung said: With the new school program, students learn Chemistry from grade 6. However, even though they study 2 years earlier, the total number of periods is about 20 periods less than the current program and the knowledge does not meet the requirements.

As for 8th graders, if we compare the content, at this time, students studying the VNEN program have completed the knowledge of semester 1. But now switching to the current program, I have to re-teach almost everything because the students hardly have the skills to handle exercises.

To overcome this limitation, the Board of Directors of Hung Dung Secondary School has requested the professional team to review all textbooks of the two programs to compile the content. Thereby, if there is any lesson that students have not learned in the new program, the school will organize additional teaching and training for students to ensure knowledge.

Any knowledge that students have learned but are not yet complete will also have to be reinforced... The school also determines that this "gap" cannot be resolved in a day or two, but can be a process and depends on each student's ability.

Related to the conversion are more than 300 sets of textbooks according to the new school program that the school ordered for students in grades 8 and 9 with a total value of more than 100 million VND. Regarding this, the Principal of Hung Dung Secondary School affirmed that this was a force majeure because the school was forced to order in August so that students could have books in time for the new school year. Now, the books are no longer in use, "we are forced to go to each class to ask parents to sympathize and share with the school because the books cannot be returned"...

It is known that this waste not only occurs in this school year and when the teaching program according to the new school program has ended, but also in previous school years. The reason is that many parents and teachers are concerned that the VNEN program does not guarantee quality, so they encourage parents to buy two sets of textbooks for their children. Students, although they are known to study according to the new school program, in reality, "study VNEN in the morning and go to extra classes in the afternoon to supplement their knowledge"...
