Government leaders donate to support people in the Northwestern provinces

This afternoon (August 7), in Hanoi, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Deputy Prime Ministers Truong Hoa Binh, Vuong Dinh Hue, and Vu Duc Dam attended the launching ceremony of a fundraising campaign to support people in the Northwestern provinces affected by floods.

The launching ceremony was organized by the Government Office. According to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, since the beginning of the year, natural disasters have left 106 people dead and missing, 1,019 houses collapsed and washed away, with total material damage estimated at over VND5,000 billion.

In particular, the recent floods and rains have caused heavy losses in human lives and property, greatly affecting the lives of people in the Northwestern provinces. The floods have killed and left missing 41 people, of whom 26 died; collapsed 231 houses, affected 338 hectares of rice and crop land, and damaged 145 irrigation works. The total damage is over 900 billion VND.

With the spirit of “helping each other” and following the Prime Minister’s instructions, today, officials, civil servants and public employees of the Government Office donated one day’s salary to support people in the Northwestern provinces affected by floods. “Tomorrow, the Government Office will transfer all of this money to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to be sent to the northern provinces,” said Minister and Head of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung.

In recent times, in the face of floods in the Northwestern provinces, the Government, ministries, branches, and organizations of the Central and local levels have made efforts to direct and assist localities severely damaged by floods; established delegations to survey and provide material and spiritual support to affected localities.
