Mr. Plotnitsky said that in this way he wanted to determine the winner in the confrontation between the militia and Kiev, ending the armed conflict in Ukraine. The letter was written on the occasion of Mr. Poroshenko's announcement of his readiness for a full-scale war scenario. "Let us follow the example of the ancient Slavo and Cossack leaders who met in a duel. The winner has the right to set terms with the opponent," the letter said. Mr. Plotnitsky gave Mr. Poroshenko the right to choose the location and weapons.
The LNR leader also announced the conditions if he wins. These include an immediate cessation of all hostilities, the withdrawal of all Ukrainian armed groups outside the administrative boundaries of Lugansk and Donetsk provinces, and the urgent start of peace negotiations between Kiev on one side and the two self-proclaimed Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics on the other./.
