Yuri Gempel, head of the Crimean Parliament's Committee for People's Foreign Affairs and Inter-ethnic Relations, said that the French authorities were deeply mistaken in calling Crimea an annexed territory.

Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian had a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba. During the conversation, Foreign Minister Le Drian affirmed France's unwavering and unequivocal stance that "it does not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea."

Mr. Gempel said that France is pursuing an inconsistent policy. While French President Emmanuel Macron is talking about building a dialogue with Russia, the French Foreign Ministry is talking about annexing the peninsula, showing a deep "delusion" about the events taking place in Crimea.

According to the Crimean leader, if France is really interested in establishing and strengthening relations with Russia, it should start with recognizing Russia's status as Crimea.

"All of Ukraine's claims to Crimea are fictitious and ineffective. The people of Crimea have shown their will, using their right to self-determination to return to the "motherland" of the Russian Federation," Yuri Gempel emphasized.
