Through thousands of years of struggle to build and defend the country, generations of Vietnamese people with ardent patriotism and indomitable will have spared no blood, effort, or wealth to preserve the independence, freedom, and unity of the Fatherland; to build a beautiful country for future generations.
Inheriting that precious tradition, in the Ho Chi Minh era, under the leadership of the Party, our people overcame countless difficulties and challenges, writing glorious pages of history in the struggles for national liberation, national reunification, and building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
For the independence, freedom and unity of the Fatherland, for the peaceful and happy life of the people, millions of the nation's outstanding children have devoted their youth and their lives to the country; heroically sacrificed themselves on the battlefield or suffered lifelong disabilities.
During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh taught: “Thus they have brought glory to the nation and the race. They died so that the Fatherland would live forever; they lost their material possessions, but their spirit will always live with the mountains and rivers of Vietnam.”
The Party, State and people of Vietnam will forever remember and be eternally grateful for that great sacrifice and contribution. Generations of Vietnamese people will always be proud and vow to live up to the noble sacrifices of previous generations.
With the fine tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source" of the Vietnamese people, right from the early days of the resistance war against colonialism, President Ho Chi Minh decided to choose July 27 every year as the National War Invalids Day, so that the whole Party, the whole army and the whole people can remember and honor the merits of heroic martyrs, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers and people who have contributed to the country.
Since then, July 27 every year has become a day of profound historical, political and social significance, imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity.
Deeply imbued with the moral principles of “When drinking water, remember its source” and “When eating fruit, remember the person who planted the tree,” over the past 68 years, the Party and State of Vietnam have always paid attention to leading and directing the work of repaying gratitude, remembering and honoring the contributions of heroic martyrs, war invalids, sick soldiers and people with meritorious services to the revolution; constantly improving and effectively implementing preferential policies and regimes for people with meritorious services and their families.
The work of searching for and collecting martyrs' remains, building and renovating cemeteries and martyrs' memorials has been carried out with interest by all levels, sectors and the whole society. The movement of "Repaying gratitude" is increasingly developing widely and effectively, becoming a cultural beauty in the life of the Vietnamese people.../.
