Leaders of the National Traffic Safety Committee visit families of victims swept away by floodwaters

(Baonghean.vn) -On the afternoon of September 21, leaders of the National Traffic Safety Committee were present at Khe Ang, Nghia Hong commune, to directly inspect and supervise the search for 5 victims in the car swept away by floodwaters.

The working delegation led by Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep - Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee and Mr. Nguyen Trong Thai - Chief of Office of the Committee listened to Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Mr. Nguyen Hong Ky, Director of the Department of Transport report on the rescue work when a car was swept away by floodwaters on Khe Ang on the evening of September 19.

Currently, on Khe Ang there are always rescue forces including military officers, police, local people and 17 divers, 5 military and police speedboats and 4 fishing boats of fishermen operating continuously, the search area has been expanded. However, the weather conditions and terrain of Khe Ang are complicated, the stream is narrow but deep, many rocky holes, whirlpools make the search very difficult. By the end of the afternoon of September 21, the search had still not yielded results.

“The deepest part of Khe Ang is 15 meters, local rescue vehicles are very difficult to access, the province is in dire need of support in terms of specialized vehicles and machinery from the Engineering Command, the Ministry of Transport, and the National Search and Rescue Committee so that the search will soon have results,” affirmed comrade Huynh Thanh Dien.

The leaders of the National Traffic Safety Committee highly appreciated the prompt and responsible participation of the authorities and people of Nghe An province in the rescue and relief work. Faced with the difficulties of the search, the leaders of the Committee directly requested the Ministry of Transport to support Nghe An with image wave detectors to serve the search work. In the afternoon of the same day, the leaders of the National Traffic Safety Committee visited, encouraged, and gave support money to the families of the victims, each victim received 2 million VND.

Nghe An Provincial People's Committee also sent a document to the National Search and Rescue Committee and the Engineering Command to report the incident, requesting units to support human resources and modern equipment to search for victims.
