Laos appoints acting minister of public security after plane crash

According to the official Lao news agency KPL, on June 2, the Lao Ministry of Public Security announced the decision to appoint Deputy Minister of Public Security, Army General Somkeo Silavong as acting Minister of the ministry.

General Somkeo's appointment comes after the tragic plane crash on May 17 in Xieng Khouang province that killed 16 people, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Douangchay Phichit and his wife, Minister of Public Security Thongbanh Sengaphone, Head of the Central Propaganda Department of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Cheuang Sombounkhan and Vientiane Mayor Sukan Mahalad.
