Lao Cai "shares the burden" to ease the congestion of watermelon exports

“Each truck of domestic watermelons exported to Hekou (China) only takes five to seven minutes to declare and clear customs, the tax rate is zero and no fees are required,” said Mr. Nguyen Quyet Chien, Head of the Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Branch on the morning of March 31.

Currently, watermelons from the southern and central provinces are cleared through Ho Kieu road bridge (Lao Cai International Border Gate). There is a large customs warehouse, a clear customs gate, and the Border Guard, Customs, and Plant Quarantine forces are always on duty and coordinate smoothly, so there is no congestion (including on the Chinese side).

Since the beginning of January 2014, nearly 10 thousand tons of watermelons have been exported from the southern and central provinces through Lao Cai International Border Gate. Watermelon exported through Lao Cai Border Gate is packed in cardboard boxes with printed labels. Particularly in the last days of March, when watermelons were congested at Tan Thanh Border Gate (Lang Son), the amount of watermelons cleared through Lao Cai Border Gate increased dramatically, reaching more than six thousand tons. On average, hundreds of tons of watermelons are cleared every day, ensuring convenience and safety.

Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Branch is increasing its force, prioritizing fast and safe customs clearance of this agricultural product.
