By defeating Timor Leste 2-0 in the match on the afternoon of October 18, the Laos team not only officially entered the final round but also created an opportunity for Myanmar to finish early with them even though there is still one more match ahead.

The home team’s victory not only ended Timor Leste’s hopes but also indirectly helped Myanmar qualify for the next round. The direct confrontation between the two teams on the afternoon of October 20 will determine the top two positions in the qualifying standings.

Laos are currently leading the standings with 9 points after 3 wins, followed by Myanmar with 7 points (2 wins, 1 draw). The team that finishes the qualifying round in the top position will compete in Group B of the finals with Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the second-placed team in the qualifying round will be in Group A with host Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The group stage of the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup finals will take place in Vietnam and Singapore.

The semi-finals and finals are played on a home and away basis.

"We did a very good job by winning all three matches. We also wanted to beat Myanmar in the final match to lead the rankings, but currently some players are injured and I have to make changes" - Head coach of the Laos team David Booth said.

At the same time Laos beat Timor Leste 2-0, Myanmar also beat weak opponent Cambodia 1-0.
