Install surveillance cameras at railway crossings
Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) has just requested its member companies to install cameras to enhance management and safety monitoring at guarded level crossings and automatic warning level crossings.

Accordingly, install 1 camera inside the barrier, 1 system outside the barrier house (unit price not exceeding 3 million VND/unit); a system of surveillance equipment to monitor camera images is equipped and installed at the company's office.
Member railway companies requested by VNR to install cameras include: Yen Lao, Vinh Phu, Ha Lang, Ha Thai, Hai Hai, Ha Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe Tinh, Quang Binh, Binh Tri Thien, Quang Nam - Da Nang, Nghia Binh, Phu Khanh, Thuan Hai, Saigon.
VNR also requires the above companies to work with equipment suppliers to develop user manuals, equipment system maintenance procedures according to regulations, installation completion time in June 2018, and report to VNR.
For Railway Signal Information Joint Stock Companies, VNR requires to develop a plan to install a surveillance camera system for all automatic warning level crossings that have not been installed yet, and report to the corporation for consideration and implementation direction. Installation must be completed before June 12, 2018.
Previously, the Vietnam Railway Authority conducted a surprise inspection of railway traffic safety for railway staff directly serving train operations. The results showed a series of violations of labor discipline and regulations such as railway gatekeepers and switchmen drinking alcohol, falling asleep on duty and violating other regulations on labor discipline...
After a series of serious railway accidents, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The has just issued a document requesting VNR to conduct a review, clearly identify responsibilities and handle the relevant collectives and individuals in the VNR leadership and affiliated units according to their authority. VNR's handling results must be reported to the ministry before June 10.
From May 24th to now, there have been a total of 7 serious accidents on the North-South railway system, including 4 train crashes into cars crossing the railway level, 1 train crash between 2 trains, 1 train overturn, and on the morning of June 6th, a train car short-circuited and caught fire.
After the accidents, VNR suspended 10 officers and employees directly involved in the mistakes leading to the accidents and required 12 leaders of units and functional departments to take responsibility for self-criticism and self-discipline.
