The People's Committee of Hai Duong province has agreed in principle to coordinate with Quang Ninh and Bac Giang provinces to prepare a dossier for the recognition of the Yen Tu complex of historical and scenic sites as a World Heritage site.

The Yen Tu scenic area complex includes the Yen Tu historical site, the Tran Dynasty tombs in Dong Trieu (Quang Ninh province), the Tay Yen Tu nature reserve (Bac Giang province), and the Con Son - Kiet Bac historical and cultural site (Hai Duong province).

The historical sites and landmarks related to the life and work of the Three Patriarchs of Truc Lam are spread across many sites in all three provinces, forming a distinctive religious and cultural space. Among them, the Con Son-Kiep Bac-Thanh Mai complex in Hai Duong holds a very important position, as these places bear witness to the life and work of the Three Patriarchs of Truc Lam and the merits of other patriarchs such as Tran Nhan Tong, Phap Loa, and Huyen Quang in building, restoring, and propagating the Dharma.

Previously, in document No. 555/BVHTTDL-DSVH submitted to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated: "It is necessary to study and prepare a dossier for the Yen Tu complex of historical and scenic sites in close connection with other historical and scenic sites in the Dong Trieu mountain range to ensure integrity and contribute to enhancing the outstanding universal value of the criteria for proposing UNESCO World Heritage status."

The process of building the heritage dossier for the Yen Tu complex will be divided into two phases. Phase 1, from now until February 1, 2016, aims to complete the nomination dossier. Phase 2, from February 2016 to June 2017, will focus on promoting and introducing the heritage site domestically and internationally, and welcoming international experts for on-site assessment.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Duong province has assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to conduct research, in collaboration with the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh and Bac Giang provinces, based on suggestions from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and with the participation of scientists, in order to preliminarily form the core content and propose specific details for the heritage dossier to be submitted to the Government.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Duong province, if the Yen Tu complex of historical and scenic sites (including those in Hai Duong) is recognized as a world heritage site, it will have great significance, elevating the cultural and religious value of the complex from a national to an international level; at the same time, it will promote the value of cultural heritage, landscape, beliefs, religion, and tourism of the three provinces in general and Hai Duong in particular.
