Chung cake offering ceremony to honor Uncle Ho's mother

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 24 (the 6th day of the Lunar New Year), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nghe An Tourism Association in coordination with Saigon Kim Lien Joint Stock Company organized a ceremony to offer Chung cakes to pay tribute to Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan - Mother of President Ho Chi Minh. Attending the ceremony were comrade Dinh Thi Le Thanh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee and comrades representing the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, National Assembly Delegation, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Executive Committee of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Nghe An province and a large number of Buddhists and local people.

This is the third consecutive time that Saigon Kim Lien Joint Stock Company has hosted an activity to return to the roots, to pay tribute to Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan - who gave birth to and raised outstanding children for the homeland and the country. The most prominent of which is President Ho Chi Minh - Hero of national liberation, outstanding cultural celebrity. The offering ceremony to Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan includes a pair of banh chung with dimensions of 1m x 1m, 50cm high, weighing about 350kg each. The pair of banh chung was carried by many delegates and people from Vinh city to offer at Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan's tomb in Nam Giang commune, Nam Dan district. Here, the Organizing Committee conducted a solemn ceremony with the participation of the Venerables of Phuc Thanh Pagoda (Nghe An). With the meaning of drinking water, remembering its source, the offering ceremony of green banh chung on the occasion of the beginning of the spring of At Mui also shows the respect and gratitude for the great contributions of the National Mother to the homeland and the country. Through that, pray for a year of favorable weather, good crops, and a prosperous and happy life for the people.

Previously, on February 23 (the 5th day of Tet), Nghe An Tourism Association coordinated with a number of units to organize a Banh Chung Wrapping Contest. The organizing committee awarded first prize to the team from Muong Thanh Song Lam Hotel and second prize to the team from Huu Nghi Hotel.

Banh chung was carried from Vinh city to Nam Giang commune, Nam Dan to offer to Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan.

The road up to the cemetery has many steep sections so carrying the cake is quite difficult.

Carrying each cake consists of 16 strong men.

Each cake weighs 350 kg so many people join in carrying the cake as an offering.

At the tomb of Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan, the ceremony took place solemnly and respectfully.
