Nam Temple is located in hamlet 12, Thuong Yen village, Quynh Yen commune, built on a total area of ​​2,000 m2 to worship a general named Duong, who was an official under the Le - Trinh dynasty. In 1786, when the Western armySon led his troops to the North, a general named Duong, was appointed by the Le - Trinh court to be the vanguard to command the navy, guarding the Lach Quen estuary - one of the important estuaries in Thanh Nghe region. During the naval battle, General Duong's boat was wrecked, he died in battle, his body drifted into the Quen River. The people of Quynh Yen saw that General Duong was an official who had contributed to fighting the enemy, died for loyalty, helping the country, saving the people, so they buried him properly, with full rituals and built a temple to worship him.

In the first year of Thieu Tri (1841), the villagers were devastated by an epidemic. The god appeared in a medium, gave them land, built a communal house, and from then on, the villagers were peaceful, their business was prosperous, the village was rich, and both the civil and military were successful. People in the area came to pray for children, peace, and good fortune.

Although 100 years have passed since its construction, General Duong's tomb still remains intact over time, and is the pride of the local people.

Nam Temple is also a place to preserve valuable artifacts such as royal decrees, genealogies, thrones, tablets, stone steles, and tombs, which are valuable historical documents, helping each person understand more about the rich history of culture, worship beliefs, long-standing customs and practices of our people and local culture.
