Great bell casting ceremony at An Thai Pagoda (Quynh Luu)
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of January 6 (November 25, year of the Dragon), at An Thai pagoda, Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district, a bell casting ceremony weighing 1.5 tons took place.
Attending and witnessing the ceremony were Venerable Thich Tam Thanh - Chief of Office, Head of Propaganda Committee of Nghe An Provincial Buddhist Sangha; Venerable Thich Dao Huan - Head of Buddhist Representative Committee of Phu Tho Province; Venerable Thich Quang Bao - Head of Buddhist Cultural Committee of Nghe An Province; Mr. Luu Cong Vinh - Deputy Director of Department of Home Affairs - Head of Religious Committee of Nghe An Province; Colonel Tran Danh Phieng - Deputy Director of Nghe An Provincial Police; representatives of some departments and branches of Nghe An Province and many Buddhists from near and far attended.
This great bell weighs 1.5 tons, is 2.2 m high, and has a bell mouth diameter of 1.2 m. The great bell was crafted by artisans in Ha Tay.
At the ceremony, the public listened to Venerable Thich Tam Thanh - Chief of Office, Head of Propaganda Committee of Nghe An Provincial Buddhist Sangha give a speech about the value and significance of casting the Great Bell. Venerable emphasized that the bell is a symbol of awakening, has the ability to penetrate deeply into the hearts of Vietnamese people, soothe the sorrows of humanity. The sound of the bell is a passionate call to bring people back to their homeland, dispel all worldly attachments and worldly worries so that all living beings can be happy and liberated.
After the prayer ceremony, the artisans poured bronze into the bell - an important and historically significant Buddhist event for An Thai Pagoda, Quynh Long Commune.
