Lotus Village Festival with the preservation and promotion of Ho Chi Minh cultural heritage
(Baonghean) –That is the title of the Scientific Workshop, the content of the Conference summarizing 30 years of the Lotus Village Festival (1981-2011), organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committee of Nghe An province on May 25, 2011 in Vinh City.
At the workshop, 31 scientific presentations by cultural researchers and State managers of culture from: Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association, Institute of Culture and Arts, Department of Grassroots Culture, Vietnam Musicians Association, Ho Chi Minh Museum, cultural management research agencies of Nghe An province... highlighted the different colors of the Lotus Village Festival (LHLS) - Festival honoring cultural celebrity Ho Chi Minh.
Overview of the scientific conference.
To make LHLS not only a large-scale pilgrimage, gathering thousands of actors from mass art troupes from within the country and the province, but also demonstrating the potential of a Ho Chi Minh Festival of Vietnam and the world. From different perspectives, verifications, and scientific discoveries, the opinions of scientists have highlighted a number of issues such as: Sen Village Festival - Cultural Festival honoring Ho Chi Minh; Some proposals to elevate the Sen Village Festival; LHLS - the beauty of Vietnamese culture in the new era; LHLS needs to be upgraded to a national and international festival; Spiritual and religious elements in LHLS; Solutions to preserve and promote Ho Chi Minh's cultural values in LHLS; Preserving and promoting cultural heritage through LHLS; Socializing LHLS from a tourism perspective; Contributing to stabilizing and enhancing LHLS rituals; LHLS inspires literary and artistic creations...
As we know, LHLS was initiated in 1982 from the Lotus Village Singing Festival (LSF), which took place in Sen Village - the birthplace of the boy Nguyen Sinh Cung, later the cultural celebrity Ho Chi Minh. The success of the first LHSF created the premise for the Sen Village Singing Festival at the provincial level every year, and the national level every 5 years (on even years commemorating Uncle Ho's birthday). Starting from the provincial and national LHSF, in 2002 it was upgraded to a national LHLS on the broad foundation of the traditional festival in Nghe An. The presentations at this scientific conference, researchers and state managers recognized the summary of 20 years of LHSF, plus the next 10 years to become a national festival.
LHLS is in the initial stages of formation, and is constantly growing in both content and scale of a traditional festival. LHLS has truly become a festival of the masses, a "Theater" without magnificent architecture, with a large cast of actors, farmers, workers, soldiers, students, etc. from all over the country, voluntarily bringing their songs, bringing their own works of art to Sen Village, performing to present to Uncle Ho. Originating from the people, LHLS has a strong appeal, spreading strongly in the people's consciousness. Over the past 30 years, especially from the beginning of the 21st century until now, Sen Village has always been one of the unique cultural and spiritual destinations, attracting millions of pilgrims to Nghe An, to the land of Sen Village to express their respect to the National Hero - World Cultural Celebrity Ho Chi Minh.
At the Workshop, researchers and State managers of culture asked the question: Why don't we have any documents signed and stamped by superiors on upgrading the Sen Village Singing Festival to a national Sen Village Festival? The question is: If it is a national Singing Festival, who will organize it? The Government, or the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, or some related Ministries together with Nghe An province?

Regarding the theme and content of the National Festival, it is still not beyond honoring the great contributions and noble culture of President Ho Chi Minh, but it is necessary to clarify and specify the content of "National Festival" to aim at continuing to encourage and motivate all classes of people to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh in a broad and profound way. An issue that many people are interested in is: Uncle Ho was born on May 19, 1890, passed away on September 2, 1969 (July 21, lunar calendar), why is the Festival held on his birthday, while traditional festivals honoring national heroes (such as Hung Temple Festival, Tran Temple Festival (worshiping Tran Hung Dao), Lam Kinh Festival (worshiping Le Loi), Nguyen Xi Festival, etc.) are all held on the death anniversary of the famous person.
Regarding the type of Festival, the National Festival is a new Festival, so it is necessary to pay attention to internationality and modernity. UNESCO is encouraging countries to protect cultural values that carry the identity of their nation, so it has recognized and honored the cultural values of the Vietnamese people such as Hue Royal Court Music, Bac Ninh Quan Ho, Ca Tru art, Central Highlands Gongs, etc. Ho Chi Minh culture is the identity of Vietnamese culture, we need to do a good job of protecting and promoting the values that exist in the National Festival.
The final issue of concern to the Workshop is the role of Sen Village in LHLS. Up to now, LHTHLS-LHLS has been organized by the authorities at all levels and State cultural management agencies with State funding, so what will be the role of Sen Village in LHLS? Public opinion at home and abroad has known that Sen Village-Kim Lien is a traditional cultural address, an address of "geomancy and human talent" who gave birth to President Ho Chi Minh, so it is necessary to protect the cultural space with houses, gardens, trees, and landscape around the thatched house of Mr. Pho Bang. That is a heavy task in the short term as well as the long term for the authorities at all levels of Nghe An, as well as the people of Kim Lien commune, Uncle Ho's hometown.
