Inauguration ceremony of the Saint Giong Monument
(Baonghean) –The statue of Saint Giong Phu Dong Thien Vuong is a key cultural and spiritual project commemorating the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi. On the evening of September 26, at Da Chong Mountain (Soc Son District, Hanoi), the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha held a ceremony to inaugurate and enshrine the statue.
The statue of Saint Giong Phu Dong Thien Vuong was cast from 85 tons of pure copper and by hand, divided into 5 casting panels, 14.02m high to the top, 20m for the curve. The statue simulates the image of a young hero after repelling the invaders, holding an ivory bamboo pole and urging his horse towards the sky. In Vietnamese folk beliefs, Saint Giong is associated with the legend of the brave boy from Phu Dong village who defeated the An invaders, bringing peace to the country. Saint Phu Dong Thien Vuong is one of the "four immortal saints".

It is known that in October 2007, the Hanoi People's Committee decided to transfer the project of building the Saint Giong Monument to the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha under the method of socialization. On January 26, 2008, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Hanoi People's Committee held a ceremony to lay the foundation stone, on the evening of September 23, held a ceremony to enshrine the statue, and on the evening of September 26, 2010, held a ceremony to inaugurate and call the spirit into the statue.
