Along with the resounding victory of the men's chess team, Le Quang Liem ended the tournament undefeated and returned to the Top super grandmasters with Elo 2707.7.

Le Quang Liem did not lose any game at the 2012 World Chess Olympiad.

The men’s team completed the most successful World Chess Olympiad ever, finishing seventh overall after 11 rounds for the first time. The eight-place jump in round 11 came after the team’s 3-1 win over Uzbekistan on September 9.

In round 11, Le Quang Liem met his fateful opponent, international grandmaster Rustam Kasimdzhanov. At the 2010 Asian Games (Guangzhou, China), Kasimdzhanov was the one who defeated Liem to win the gold medal. This time, he tied the game and shared points with the Uzbekistan player.

While Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son was on break, international grandmaster Dao Thien Hai and international grandmaster Nguyen Duc Hoa shined in time to win two important games, helping Vietnam overcome Uzbekistan.

After this tournament, Le Quang Liem officially returned to the group of international super grandmasters and significantly improved his ranking on the FIDE rankings. His latest Elo coefficient has increased to 2707.7 thanks to the score of 14.7 he just achieved.

The final day of the tournament also witnessed some spectacular changes in the rankings. The Chinese team, after a long period of leading, unexpectedly dropped to third place after losing 1-3 to Ukraine. The men's championship belonged to Armenia, who won 2.5-1.5 against Hungary. The Russian team won second place thanks to a 3-1 victory over Germany in the final round.

In the women's tournament, the Vietnamese team won 4-0 against the Turkish youth team and finished the competition in 26th place.

Also on the closing day, FIDE announced that the host of the 2016 World Chess Olympiad will be the city of Baku.
