Flag Raising Ceremony "Unification of the Country"

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2015), and the 43rd anniversary of the liberation of Quang Tri province, on the morning of April 29, at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai historical site, Quang Tri province solemnly held the "Unification of the Country" flag-raising ceremony.

This is an activity organized by Quang Tri province on April 30 every year.

In the solemn and sacred music of the National Anthem, thousands of people attended the solemn and emotional ceremony before the national flag was raised on the Hien Luong Flagpole. Throughout the length of the struggle for national liberation and national reunification, the Hien Luong flag was the pride and strength of the Vietnamese people, becoming a symbol of faith and the unification will of our compatriots in the South.

On behalf of the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Tri province, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chinh read a speech reviewing the glorious revolutionary struggle history of the army and people of Quang Tri in particular and the people of the whole country in general to protect the unified Fatherland.

With the position of the front line of the socialist North, the direct rear of the Southern revolution, when Ngo Dinh Diem called for "Fill the Ben Hai River, advance to the North", the Party Committee, army and people of Quang Tri steadfastly overcame the destructive bullets and bombs, not moving an inch, not leaving a single strand to write the heroic epic of the Fatherland's Citadel on the 17th parallel, with Vinh Linh, the heroic steel rampart; Gio Linh, Quang Tri, brave and resilient with the place names: Road 9, Khe Sanh, Con Tien, Gioc Mieu, Cua Viet, Citadel... which have gone down in the history of the nation.

Promoting the revolutionary tradition, the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Tri unite to uphold the determination and responsibility to preserve and honor fine traditional values; overcome difficulties and challenges to protect and build the homeland in the process of industrialization and modernization.

After 40 years, the Party Committee and people of Quang Tri have strived to achieve achievements in all fields: the economy has grown well; culture and society have made many advances; national defense and security are stable, social order and safety are maintained. The great national unity bloc has been strengthened; the political system has been constantly consolidated and has new developments, meeting the requirements of leadership and direction in implementing local political tasks...

Along with the pride in the great sacrifices and contributions of many comrades and compatriots in previous historical periods, pride in the historical heritage that has been honored, the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Tri continue to promote the traditions of their homeland, develop the socio-economy, develop tourism; closely link with heritage conservation, contribute to preserving and enriching the image of Quang Tri to a large number of cadres and people nationwide and international friends.

Along with attracting investment for economic, cultural and social development, Quang Tri continues to effectively implement projects to restore, embellish, preserve and promote the value of cultural heritage in the area, especially the Hien Luong-Ben Hai relic site; Quang Tri Citadel relic site and memorial sites of the 81-day and night event of protecting Quang Tri Citadel in 1972.

The "Unification of the Country" flag raising ceremony is an occasion to honor the immortal feats and sacrifices of our army and people to carry out the sacred testament of President Ho Chi Minh: "Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one, rivers may dry up, mountains may wear away, but that truth will never change."

On this occasion, the traditional boat racing festival on Hien Luong River to celebrate the 40th anniversary of victory was also held with the participation of localities in Quang Tri province.
