Ceremony to honor outstanding Vietnamese Farmers in 2013

On the morning of October 15, in Hanoi, on the occasion of the 83rd anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Farmers' Union (October 14, 1930 - October 14, 2013), the Central Propaganda Department coordinated with the Central Vietnam Farmers' Union to organize a ceremony to honor and award the title "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers 2013". Attending the ceremony were President Truong Tan Sang; members of the Party Central Committee: Nguyen Quoc Cuong, President of the Vietnam Farmers' Union; Pham Thi Hai Chuyen, Minister of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs; leaders of a number of ministries, branches, Farmers' Unions of provinces and cities under the Central Government and enterprises operating in the fields of agriculture, farmers and rural areas.

At the ceremony, President Truong Tan Sang respectfully awarded the Certificate of "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer 2013" to 62 typical and advanced farmers across the country. The individuals honored are exemplary farmers who have well implemented the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, actively participated in dynamic and creative emulation movements in the market mechanism; dared to think, dared to do, boldly applied science - technology and new technologies to production and business to achieve high productivity, quality and economic efficiency.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Truong Tan Sang delivered a speech, warmly praising the great achievements of farmers nationwide in general in the past time and congratulating 62 farmers who were honored to be awarded the title "Excellent Farmer of 2013", praising the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and units for their initiative and coordination in organizing this very meaningful event. The President affirmed: Farmers have for generations been the owners who have played a very important role in the rise and fall of our country and our people throughout thousands of years of history.

The great and historic achievements that our country has achieved in nearly 30 years of renovation have had a great and very proud contribution from farmers. Even when the country's economy is facing difficulties, farmers are an important factor, contributing to solving difficulties, ensuring social security for the country to stabilize and continue to develop. In recent years, farmers across the country have actively implemented the Party's policies and the State's policies, participating in many movements launched by the Vietnam Farmers' Union, with many extremely rich, creative and effective ways of doing things.

President Truong Tan Sang stated: Our Party and State have set out the tasks for the coming years as follows: Comprehensively developing agriculture in a modern, efficient and sustainable direction; developing large-scale commodity agriculture with high productivity, quality, competitiveness and environmental friendliness; and building new rural areas suitable to the characteristics of each region with specific and steady steps in each stage, in a civilized and prosperous direction, improving the material and spiritual life of farmers; maintaining and promoting the fine cultural traditions of Vietnam's rural areas.

Wishing that the 62 outstanding farmers of 2013 continue to promote their role as advanced models in the emulation movement, President Truong Tan Sang wished farmers nationwide to make even greater contributions to the cause of agricultural development and new rural construction, building and defending the Fatherland. At the same time, he requested the Vietnam Farmers' Union to continue to perform its functions and tasks well, support and help members and farmers develop production and business, organize patriotic emulation movements, promote propaganda, and replicate advanced models, creating a spread among farmers nationwide.

* On this occasion, Nong Thon Ngay Nay Newspaper cooperated with Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company to organize the writing contest "Pride of Vietnamese Farmers" from October 2013 to October 2014. Through this, we discovered typical examples of farmers and new farmer members to nominate for the vote and award the title "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers of 2014".
