Memorial service for General Vo Nguyen Giap in Mexico
To pay infinite respect to General Vo Nguyen Giap, an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh, the eldest brother of the Vietnam People's Army, on October 10 and 11, the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico held a memorial service and opened a condolence book to welcome representatives of the government, the National Assembly, the diplomatic corps of countries in the capital city, organizations, individuals, officials, employees, relatives of the families of the Embassy and representative agencies of Vietnam in the host country, and students and doctors of the Central Acupuncture Institute working in the area to pay their respects to the General.
Speaking at the memorial service, Ambassador Le Thanh Tung affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico always remembers and is eternally grateful to the General, who devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the country, and pledged to fulfill his assigned tasks to be worthy of the great contributions that the General made to our nation over the past decades. The Ambassador asked for a minute of silence and then invited representatives of the permanent agencies, families of Vietnamese officials and civil servants in Mexico and individuals to offer incense at the General's altar.
Representatives of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the Embassies of Cuba, Brazil, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and representatives of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party, the Mexican Communist Party, the Democratic Revolutionary Party, and especially the General Secretary of the Workers' Party (PT), President of the Mexico-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, Federal Congressman Alberto Anaya Gutierrez came to express condolences to the Vietnamese people for this extremely great loss.
General Secretary Alberto Anaya Gutierrez was moved to present to Ambassador Le Thanh Tung the condolences of the PT Party and the condolences of the Mexico-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, which emphasized: Together with President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap has entered human history as a living model of sacrifice, courage and honesty, and at the same time contributed significantly to changing the face of society throughout the world.
The telegram continued: With infinite sorrow, we received the news of the passing of comrade Vo Nguyen Giap, an extraordinary man of the 20th century, a legendary general who devoted his whole life to the struggle for the liberation of the Vietnamese people and for the independence of all peoples in the world. We always remember the good feelings that the General had for PT and we always respect the General as a Teacher in our revolutionary struggle.
Immediately after the ceremony, answering reporters of the Vietnam News Agency about his memories of General Vo Nguyen Giap in 2002 in Hanoi, General Secretary Alberto Anaya Gutierrez considered it a historic visit, never forgetting the image of a hero who had defeated many foreign invaders, and despite having held many important positions in the Party and government, General Vo Nguyen Giap always showed himself to be a simple, modest and truly open-minded person. We admire him for his intelligence, courage, military genius, loyalty to the Party, and especially his spirit of voluntary sacrifice for the cause of national liberation of Vietnam.
General Secretary Alberto Anaya Gutierrez announced that the day after receiving news of General Vo Nguyen Giap's death, the PT Central Executive Committee held a memorial service for the General and that the PT will soon republish with additional Spanish language editions of the book "The Writings of General Vo Nguyen Giap".
