2013 Southeast Asian School Games Departure Ceremony

Yesterday, at the hall of the Hanoi High-Level Athlete Training Center, the ceremony to send off the Vietnamese student sports delegation to the 5th Southeast Asian Student Sports Congress - Hanoi 2013 took place.

According to the plan, the 5th Southeast Asian Students Sports Congress 2013 (ASG5) will take place from June 23 to June 30 in Hanoi. The Congress will be attended by 8 delegations from the Southeast Asian Students Council, namely Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, the Philippines, Laos and host Vietnam.

It is known that ASG 5 will have 1,500 people from sports delegations, Board of Members officials, technical experts, referees, and reporters. Student athletes will compete in 9 sports, including sepak takraw, badminton, pencak silat, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, athletics, swimming, and gymnastics.

Sepak takraw, badminton, pencak silat, volleyball, gymnastics and table tennis will be held at the Hanoi Sports Training Center. The remaining events will be held at My Dinh National Stadium, the Aquatics Palace (My Dinh Sports Complex) and Hanoi National University of Education.

The opening and closing ceremonies were held at the Hanoi Athletics Palace. The Vietnamese sports delegation attended this Games with 248 athletes competing in all 9 sports. Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Quang Quy, head of the Games' Organizing Committee, said that the goal of the Vietnamese delegation is to strive to win more than the 27 gold medals of the previous Games and to rank second overall.

At the launch ceremony yesterday, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Quang Quy assigned tasks to the Vietnamese student sports delegation at this year's tournament. Deputy Minister Tran Quang Quy affirmed: "With the aim of exchanging and learning and continuing to expand international cooperation in the fields of culture, education and training, I hope that the participating delegation this time will continue to maintain and promote the achievements we have achieved in previous Congresses."
