According to the Jerusalem Post, citing information from the Arab website Al-Jarida, Israel has drawn up a list of “attack targets located in Iraq.” Specifically, the list includes “Iranian military facilities used to transport weapons, equipment, etc. to Syria” and Tel Aviv plans to bomb these targets to stop Iran’s expansion of influence in the region.
“Over the past two months, Al-Jarida has collected numerous satellite images of targets in Israel’s sights, including the Iraqi-Iranian border crossings such as Mehran and Bashmak…”, the Jerusalem Post translated Al-Jarida’s article.
According to Al-Jarida, Tel Aviv has long been monitoring “Iran’s efforts to create a land corridor from Tehran through Baghdad and directly into Syrian territory.” The Arabic website also pointed out that several facilities in Iraq controlled by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used to belong to the US military. These facilities include “the H3 airbase, the Rutba military complex, and other locations near villages and towns such as Al-Burr and Iraqi military bases,” Al-Jarida wrote.
Commenting on Israel's list, Al-Jarida said that if the Israeli army decides to attack these targets, it will be "a change in the rules of the game in the Middle East, and possibly an attempt to expand the front of confrontation with Iran after the Syrian government began to control the Quneitra border area located near the Israeli-controlled part of the Golan Heights."
