Sanctions will cost Europe and Russia dearly
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, French President Emmanuel Macron said sanctions change nothing and cost Europe and Russia dearly.
"We have frozen conflicts, mutual distrust and conflicts in the field of cybersecurity. Sanctions have not changed anything in Russia at all. I do not propose to remove them, I just say clearly: Sanctions do not bring very positive results, but they cost us dearly, as well as Russia."

According to Mr. Macron, the strategic dialogue with Russia should be based on the ability to resolve frozen conflicts, discuss cyber and space security. France also supports Russia's position that the situation in Syria's Idlib province is unacceptable - the French President said.
In addition, Mr. Macron noted that he supports Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal for a summit of permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
The Munich conference took place from February 14 to 16, with the participation of more than 800 delegates, including nearly 150 heads of state, prime ministers and government members. The Russian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
