Leo Messi could return to action this weekend
According to Spanish press, striker Lionel Messi's injury is not as serious as expected and it is likely that the Argentine star will be able to play in the match between Barcelona and Real Betis in round 15 of La Liga this weekend.
The Argentine striker was stretchered off during the 0-0 draw with Benfica in the final round of the Champions League group stage. In this match, Messi fell to the ground and clutched his knee after colliding with Benfica goalkeeper Artur.
The last time Messi was injured was in September 2010 against Atletico Madrid. In that match, the Barca striker injured his ankle and had to miss two matches.
"I feel fine but I don't know exactly if I'll be able to play against Betis. We'll see. The truth is I didn't think much at the time because I was in so much pain. I was afraid the worst would happen to me. But when the doctor said it wasn't a serious injury, I felt much more comfortable," Messi said happily.
"If coach Tito Vilanova lets me play I won't mind anything. Breaking Gerd Muller's scoring record is not an obsession for me. I score goals to help the club. If I can break the record it will be great but if I can't it's no big deal."
With 84 goals, Messi is only one goal behind the German legend's record. Barcelona have 3 matches left before 2012 ends./.
