Vietnam Film Festival 2013 takes place at the end of the year in Quang Ninh
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the 18th Vietnam Film Festival will take place in Ha Long City (Quang Ninh) at the end of this year. This is the first festival in the period when the national film festival will take place every two years in odd years, alternating with the Hanoi International Film Festival in even years.
Vietnam's revolutionary cinema was born in 1955, but it was not until 1970 that the country held its first national film festival. For more than 4 decades, the national film festival was held every 5 years/2 times (every 2 or 3 years).
From the 18th Vietnam Film Festival at the end of this year, this film event will take place periodically in odd-numbered years.
Unlike international film festivals, the Vietnam National Film Festival (as well as national film festivals of other countries) are internal film events of a film organization. Therefore, while international film festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Tokyo, Bangkok, Shanghai, etc. take place at a fixed location, film festivals of this type such as the Asia-Pacific Film Festival, the Hundred Flowers - Golden Rooster Film Festival (China) are more community-based film events, taking place in rotation at different locations within the scope of this film organization.
If the Hanoi International Film Festival is held in Hanoi, the Kite Awards are held alternately in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Film Festival has traveled to other provinces and cities. In 17 times of organization, the Vietnam Film Festival has taken place in Hanoi (1970 - 1973 - 1980 - 1985 - 1996), Ho Chi Minh City (1977 - 1983 - 2009), Hai Phong (1975 - 1993), Da Nang (1988), Nha Trang (1990), Hue (1999), Vinh (2001), Buon Me Thuot (2004), Nam Dinh (2007), Phu Yen (2011) and coming up, at the end of this year, it will be held for the first time in Quang Ninh.
As usual, the Vietnam Film Festival will be the place to compete for the categories of Feature Film, Feature Video (may no longer exist), Documentary (Film and Video), Scientific Film, Short Film, and Animation. In each category, the Golden Lotus, Silver Lotus and individual awards will be given to outstanding films.
This year's Vietnam Film Festival will take place over 5 days, in the fourth quarter, with no specific date yet set.
Thus, from now on, in addition to the annual Golden Kite Awards, the Vietnamese film awards system will be more organized and coherent with the Golden Lotus Awards taking place every two years in odd years, alternating with the Hanoi International Film Festival held in even years.
