The UN always supports a peaceful solution in the East Sea.
TNHK quoted the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs as saying that the United Nations has reaffirmed its support for a peaceful solution to the dispute between the Philippines and China in the East Sea.
The Philippine press quoted a statement from the country's Department of Foreign Affairs saying that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reaffirmed the above support during a meeting with the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the UN, Libran Cabactulan, at the UN headquarters in New York last week.
During the meeting, Ambassador Cabactulan reiterated to Mr. Ban the Philippines' efforts to bring the South China Sea issue to an international arbitration court to resolve its long-standing dispute with China, a move that has been rejected by Beijing.
Also according to the Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Secretary-General said he is closely monitoring the developments of the case.
Meanwhile, in Manila, Philippine Foreign Minister Albert del Rosario expressed his gratitude to the US for Washington's recent support for the Philippines' legal efforts to bring China's "nine-dash line" map in the East Sea to the UN court./.
