According to Russian TV channel RT, the Lebanese army's capture of the wife and children of Islamic State (IS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was thanks to cooperation between Lebanon and "foreign intelligence".

The Safir daily newspaper quoted Lebanese officials as saying the woman was one of al-Baghdadi's wives. The officials did not provide details about the nationality or the names of the mother and daughter.

The woman was arrested while trying to cross the Syrian border with her son. According to Lebanese officials, she was carrying false identification documents. Both mother and son were taken to the Lebanese Ministry of Defense in Beirut for questioning.

In July this year, photos of one of al-Baghdadi’s wives, Saja Hamid al-Dulaimi, appeared on the internet, providing a glimpse into the IS leader’s private life. It is not clear whether Saja Hamid al-Dulaimi is the woman who was recently captured.

Al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed caliph of the Islamic State (IS) group, was reportedly seriously injured in an airstrike on the Iraqi town of Al-Qaim on November 8 this year. However, the news came from Iraq and the Pentagon said it had not received similar information.

On November 13, IS released an audio recording of Baghdadi calling on IS supporters around the world to join the jihad.

Last October, a UN report on IS-related violence concluded that the group regularly committed human rights violations such as mass executions, kidnapping women, and using girls as sex slaves.

Many of these crimes are ethnically discriminatory in nature, targeting minority groups such as Shiite Muslims, Yazidis and Christians./.
