Lebanese Finance Minister Ali Khalil made this statement at the opening of talks with Chairman of the Russian Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev.

"Currently, we are directly fighting terrorism. On the northern and eastern borders we are fighting against the armed elements of IS and Jabhat al-Nusra. The Lebanese army is engaged in daily clashes and armed clashes, so we need additional support.

We are working with the Russian side in several directions: for a long time Russia has been supporting our security forces and army, "- said Mr. Khalil. According to him, Beirut wants to strengthen cooperation with Russia and hopes that Moscow will provide additional military support to the Lebanese armed forces.

Mr. Khalil also stressed that, "Russia plays a very important role in the Middle East region and maintains good relations with representatives of all political forces in Lebanon."
