Libya reopens Tripoli international airport

November 8, 2011 10:45

On November 7, Libya reopened the international airport in the capital Tripoli, a week after the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) ended its military campaign in the North African country.

Previously, NATO announced the end of the no-fly zone in Libya on October 31, despite the Libyan National Transitional Council's request for NATO to extend the mission.

“I would like to announce that Tripoli International Airport has resumed normal operations. For international flights, we have started with a flight to Türkiye and then a flight from Cairo, Egypt,” said Mr. Al-Akhdar, head of security at Tripoli International Airport.

Mr. Al-Akhdar said that Tripoli International Airport has a new radar system and technical problems have been resolved to resume commercial flights. After Türkiye and Egypt, at least eight more international flights will resume in the coming days.
