Night of August 30 to August 31, 1917:300 soldiers led by Doi Can launched an uprising in Thai Nguyen. Luong Ngoc Quyen was appointed advisor and deputy commander. The insurgents killed the Thai Nguyen prison warden and freed all prisoners, most of whom were political prisoners in the De Tham, Duy Tan, and Dong Du cases. The insurgents controlled Thai Nguyen for seven days. The French sent reinforcements from Hanoi to counterattack fiercely. Doi Can, showing his spirit of preferring death to surrender, committed suicide at the Nui Phao base. Because he was disabled and could not walk, Luong Ngoc Quyen also committed suicide so that the insurgents could easily retreat and preserve their strength.
