The 61-year-old male patient, residing in Hai Chau district, is a retired cadre who has not left Da Nang but has been to many hospitals.

On the morning of July 26, Dr. Nguyen Tien Hong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Health, said that "patient 418" residing on Hai Son Street, Thanh Binh Ward, Hai Chau District had a history of type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.

The patient lives with his wife and daughter. For the past month, he has not left Da Nang and has stayed at home most of the time. He has not had contact with foreigners and drinks coffee and has breakfast at home every day.

In the 14 days before the onset of the disease, he went to take care of his father who was being treated at the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department of Da Nang Hospital.

On July 11, he had a cough, fever in the afternoon, fatigue, weight loss, and poor appetite. He asked his son-in-law to take him to a private clinic on Bac Dau Street (Thanh Binh Ward). He used medicine for 2 days but did not feel better.

A week later, the patient went to the emergency room at Hai Chau District Hospital (Cao Thang Street). He then went to the Emergency Department of Da Nang Hospital and was transferred to the Department of Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine of Da Nang Hospital (room 506).

Upon admission to Da Nang Hospital, the patient coughed up white phlegm and had difficulty breathing; there were scattered moist rales and crackling rales in both lungs. Doctors initially diagnosed him with pneumonia and monitored him for tuberculosis. The patient later developed respiratory failure.

On July 23, "patient 418" was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of Da Nang Hospital in a serious condition, requiring mechanical ventilation via endotracheal tube. At present, the patient's lungs are temporarily ventilated; RASS is negative 3 points.
Immediately after receiving information about the patient on the afternoon of July 24, Da Nang Hospital monitored and took samples for testing. The screening test results on July 25 using the Realtime RT-PCR method at the Da Nang Center for Disease Control (CDC) showed that the patient was positive for nCoV.
CDC Da Nang continued to send samples for confirmation testing at the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang. The results were both positive for nCoV. On the morning of July 26, the Ministry of Health announced this as "case 418" in Vietnam and the second consecutive community infection case in Da Nang in the past three days.

The Da Nang health sector has coordinated with the police to quickly investigate, isolate, and take samples for testing of cases in close contact with and related to the patient. At the same time, disinfectants were sprayed at Da Nang Hospital and areas during the patient's travel.

The city is preparing information to notify people who have been in contact with the patient within 14 days to proactively monitor their health, report their health status, go to medical facilities for testing advice and apply timely medical interventions.

The patient is being treated for Covid-19 at Da Nang Hospital. The number of people who have come into contact with him is being screened. There are currently no statistics on cases that must be quarantined related to "patient 418".
