Chelsea will visit Atletico's Vicente Calderon at 1:45 a.m. on April 23, Vietnam time, while at Bernabeu, Real will host defending champions Bayern Munich (1:45 a.m. on April 24).
Chelsea's away trip to Vicente Calderon is predicted to be not easy at all as this stadium is considered a "death ground" for English teams.
In the 2009-10 Champions League group stage, Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw at the Vicente Calderon. That same season, Atletico also beat Liverpool 1-0 at home in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals.
Atletico had previously beaten Manchester United 3-0 in the 1991-92 Cup Winners' Cup. Other English clubs such as Leicester, Derby County, Aston Villa and Bolton also suffered the same fate.
Obviously, Vicente Calderon is really a big challenge for Chelsea, especially when the London team just experienced a shock 1-2 loss to Sunderland, while Atletico is excited and very close to winning the La Liga championship.
Meanwhile, the most anticipated match between Real and Bayern will take place at the Bernabeu. This match is considered a fateful battle between the "White Vultures" and the "Gray Tigers" as well as with the Germans themselves.
This is the third consecutive season Real have faced German teams in the semi-finals. In the 2011-12 season, Real lost to Bayern on penalties. A year later, they were eliminated after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Dortmund.
This year, Real will face Bayern again. This will be an opportunity for Real to pay back their debt and aim for Decima (10 Champions League titles), but this will not be easy because their opponent is the champion.
Also in this midweek series, fans will witness a "civil war" on Spanish soil between Sevilla and Valencia in the Europa League semi-finals. Both teams made a spectacular comeback to slip through the gap against Porto and Basel in the quarter-finals.
