On December 20 and 21, the 2012 Hanoi Ca Tru Festival will officially take place at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam.

The festival is organized with the aim of inventorying and preserving Hanoi's ancient Ca Tru melodies of various types: worship singing, communal house singing, government singing and ca quan singing, etc., which are in danger of being lost.

In addition, the festival also encourages and motivates clubs and ca tru groups across the city to list their ca tru tunes, practice and perform them to create their own artistic style.

In addition to artists and singers, the Festival also encourages children to participate in performances.

Within the framework of the 2012 Hanoi Ca Tru Festival, the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize seminars to discuss solutions to preserve ancient Ca Tru melodies of Thang Long-Hanoi.

This event is an opportunity for artisans, artists and audiences who love Ca Tru at home and abroad to meet, exchange and share experiences.

Ca Tru, also known as Hat A Dao, is a traditional art form of the North, popular since around the 15th century, very popular in cultural life in Vietnam from the beginning of the 20th century and before.

In October 2009, the Vietnamese art of Ca Tru was recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a world cultural heritage and in need of urgent protection.
