Earlier in the day, 28 people on a bus carrying 60 people en route to Kenya's capital Nairobi were killed in Mandera near the Kenya-Somalia border.
The men claimed to be al-Shabaab militants and demanded that those in the vehicle recite the Koran and kill those who refused.
Kenyan Presidential Adviser Abdikadir Mohamed said the incident was aimed at inciting a religious war in Kenya between Muslims and people of other religions./.
