According to AFP, on August 10, the European Union (EU) condemned the burning of a series of armored vehicles by observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), who are monitoring the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine controlled by separatists, and urged the opposing sides to strictly comply with this ceasefire agreement.
"The burning of OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SNM) vehicles yesterday in Donetsk is unacceptable. It is of utmost importance that the parties fully comply with the ceasefire agreement, ensure the safety and freedom of movement of OSCE SMM observers throughout the entire territory of Ukraine...," the EU statement said.
On August 9, OSCE monitors said four of their vehicles were destroyed in an arson attack at the hotel where they were staying.
The OSCE said the attack was aimed at disrupting its monitoring activities in the separatist east, and that the separatists were responsible for ensuring the safety of the monitoring mission and its assets./.
