Nghe An Cooperative Alliance celebrates 20th anniversary of its founding

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of October 23 in Vinh City, Nghe An Cooperative Alliance held a ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Cooperative Alliance's establishment (October 29, 1993 - October 29, 2013).

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Van Bien - Vice President of Vietnam Cooperative Alliance; Comrade Le Xuan Dai - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, together with leaders of departments, branches and unions, Presidents of the Cooperative Alliance through the periods and nearly 200 delegates representing cooperatives and members in the province.

At the Ceremony, delegates reviewed the development of the Vietnamese Cooperative Movement. Although it was established later than in some provinces, Nghe An collective economy has made many important contributions to the socio-economic development of the province. Many effective cooperative models have helped the household economy develop, creating links and cooperation between small production establishments.

Cooperatives have contributed to mobilizing resources to develop industries, shifting economic structure towards rural industrialization and modernization, creating jobs, increasing income, and ensuring the lives of members and workers.

Many cooperatives have done well in social work, actively participated in poverty reduction, built local welfare projects, contributed to political stability, and maintained local security and order. Up to now, the whole province has more than 2,720 cooperative groups, 852 cooperative unions, including 430 agricultural cooperatives and 422 non-agricultural cooperatives... an increase of 334 cooperatives compared to 2002, attracting more than 650,000 workers to participate.

After 20 years of construction and development, Nghe An Cooperative Union has affirmed its important role as a socio-economic organization with the task of representing and supporting the collective economy. To further enhance the role of the collective economy, the province is currently setting a target that by 2015, the collective economic value will reach 1,500-2,000 billion, accounting for 25-30% of the general economic structure, attracting 80-90% of agricultural farmers to participate voluntarily. This is an important goal to contribute to the construction of new rural areas, improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

Also at the Ceremony, authorized by the President, the Prime Minister and the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, Comrade Le Xuan Dai awarded the Second and Third Class Labor Medals to two individuals; and certificates of merit from the Prime Minister to one collective and three individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the collective economy.

On this occasion, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council - People's Committee - Fatherland Front Committee of the province also presented the Nghe An Cooperative Alliance with a banner bearing the words "Nghe An Cooperative Alliance promotes 20-year tradition, responsibility, creativity, and improves cooperative efficiency".
