Sentenced to 18 years in prison after nearly 8 years on the run

(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of September 9, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first instance trial of the criminal case against defendant Bui Van Trong (born in 1977), residing in Yen Trung hamlet, Thanh Yen commune (Thanh Chuong). For the act of illegally buying and selling drugs, Bui Van Trong was sentenced to 18 years in prison by the People's Court.

According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Nghe An province, around March 2005, while working at a construction site in Tan Binh district (Ho Chi Minh City), Bui Van Trong received a phone call from his brother, Bui Van Son. Knowing that Son had arrived in Saigon, Trong drove to pick up Son and a man named Hoa to a nearby hotel to rest. At around 2:00 p.m. the same day, Trong returned to the hotel at his brother's request. Upon arrival, Trong was given a plastic bag by Son, containing a square, white powder package weighing 350 grams.

It is known that the above drugs were purchased by Son and Hoa in Nghe An for 3,500 USD with the purpose of transporting them to Saigon to sell for profit. After successfully transporting them to Saigon, Bui Van Son asked his younger brother Bui Van Trong to bring them to Hoang Van Thu Park (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City) to sell to a man named Bao for 6,800 USD. As promised, Trong brought the package of drugs to the park and then gave it to the man named Bao to get the agreed amount of money.

By the end of 2006, the illegal drug trafficking ring was discovered, and Bui Van Son and other subjects were arrested. Bui Van Trong was one of the links in the ring wanted by the authorities.

In 2007, the People's Court of Nghe An province brought the case of illegal drug trafficking to trial. As for Bui Van Trong, after learning that Son and his accomplices were arrested, Trong did not surrender but instead hid everywhere to escape the law. On May 7, 2013, knowing that he could no longer hide, Trong went to the authorities in Ho Chi Minh City to surrender and honestly confessed his crimes.

And 18 years in prison is the sentence for Bui Van Trong's illegal drug trafficking.
