(Baonghean.vn) - For border soldiers, celebrating Tet away from home is a normal thing. They are willing to put aside personal feelings, accept disadvantages, and always stand firm on the front line of the Fatherland for the peaceful life of the people... These days before Tet, soldiers of Border Guard Station 531 (Keng Du, Ky Son, Nghe An) are completing preparations for a warm Tet at the border.

After a long journey, struggling with winding, muddy roads, heart-stopping turns… we finally arrived at Keng Du Border Guard Station on a freezing day before Tet to see the atmosphere of the border soldiers preparing to welcome the new spring.

Located more than 80km from Muong Xen town, Keng Du border post is one of the farthest posts in Nghe An province, with difficult roads and rugged terrain. The post is responsible for protecting 25km of border line, managing Keng Du commune with 10 villages of Kho Mu and Thai ethnic groups.

These days, the Tet atmosphere is bustling, everyone puts aside the work of the year to welcome the new spring. In Keng Du, the Khmu people also start cutting wild dong leaves, soaking and cleaning upland sticky rice to make Chung cakes to celebrate Tet, while Border Guard officers and soldiers still patrol every day to protect security and order at the border and in the villages.

To prepare for a warmer and more complete Tet holiday, on this occasion, the soldiers of Station 531 stepped up production activities. The unit is basically self-sufficient in vegetables regularly, creating a value from increased production of more than 35 million VND to put into the capital fund. Looking at the lush green vegetable garden of the unit, one can feel the vitality rising up to overcome the harsh cold of the mountainous region.

This spring, the Khmu and Thai people in Keng Du welcomed the New Year with many new joys, because their lives were accompanied by the soldiers in green uniforms of Station 531. Determining that to stabilize the political situation in the border area, first of all, they had to stabilize their lives and create trust for the villagers, officers and soldiers of Keng Du Border Guard Station contributed to building houses, roads, clinics, schools, contributing bowls of rice to help people in the border area, and developing many economic models down to each household. In the last days of the year, they also took advantage of their time to go to the area, helping people clean up and repair their houses to prepare for the new spring. They really created trust among the people, becoming sons of the village.

Preparing for Tet with the villagers

This year, many officers and soldiers of Keng Du Station were on duty and welcomed the new year at the unit. Despite the difficult conditions, the Station still prepared and organized a warm and happy Tet for the brothers. The Party Committee and commanders of the unit allocated a part of the production budget to prepare Tet gifts for the officers and soldiers. On New Year's Eve, in addition to the year-end feast, the unit also organized cultural and artistic exchanges with the local people, picked democratic flowers, encouraged the spirit of the officers and soldiers, shared rice wine and sang Lam Vong songs with the local people to strengthen the military-civilian relationship in the joy of the new year, making the spring atmosphere more exciting and joyful at the Fatherland's border.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen The Thanh, Head of Keng Du Border Guard Station, shared: “Each officer and soldier of the unit clearly identified their duties, happily welcomed the New Year, and continuously increased patrols to ensure security and order in the area. The officers and soldiers on duty during the New Year clearly identified their roles and responsibilities when performing duties at the border. In general, they were all happy to receive the task of staying on duty during the New Year. At the beginning of the new year, the officers and soldiers of the border guard station also carried out many activities and were always ready to receive all tasks assigned by their superiors..”

Tet is coming very soon, the cold air lingers in the forests, the peach branches have begun to bud, turning pink, gently spreading their petals to welcome the new spring. As for the officers and soldiers of Keng Du Border Post, they have the joy of soldiers far from home in their second homeland. They have excellently completed their duties as revolutionary soldiers in the new era.
